Common Mistakes That Compromise Attic Insulation

Attic insulation is essential when it comes to regulating your home’s indoor temperatures. Unfortunately, mistakes sometimes happen during installation that could compromise not just indoor air comfort, but also your home’s energy efficiency.

The Attic Floor Is Not Properly Sealed

Insulation works best when the attic floor doesn’t have any gaps that could cause air from below to seep through into the attic area. If there are gaps along the edges and the soffits, or if areas where pipes or electrical wiring are not properly sealed, your insulation will not perform as efficiently as it should.

The Insulation Has Gaps in It

Depending on the type of insulation you have installed in your attic, it’s possible to have a few gaps or seams that run along the edges of the insulating layers. It’s best to use a combination of sealants and blown-in insulation to avoid these compromising gaps.

The Eave Vents Are Blocked by Insulation

Too much of a good thing can be bad, and the same thing can be said about attic insulation. If the insulation accidentally covers up the eave vents, the attic’s ventilation takes a hit, causing problems like mold and condensation that, in turn, can damage and compromise the insulation. It’s important to make sure that the vents remain free of obstructions.

The Insulation Is Installed by Amateurs

Properly insulating your home’s attic requires the right equipment and experience. To make sure you get an efficient insulating system, you should leave the work to certified experts in residential roofing services. Otherwise, common amateur mistakes can happen during installation, giving you less than ideal results.
